Internet Usage Based Billing and Data Plans Explained
Most people don’t understand why some Internet companies have “data caps” and why some Internet companies don’t.
What GoBrolly® has found is the the so called “Unlimited” offerings have three things in common:
- The network does not run at the rated speed. No speed, no data.
- Poor or non-existent Customer service.
- The price you pay for the connection is 3x what you would pay GoBrolly® for comparable speed plans.
GoBrolly® has very large and Customer defined data allowances. Our Free Data generally exceeds a cell phone plan by 10x and most of our plans have as much data per day as cell phones plans have in a month. If, in the rare instance, that the data runs into the extended usage, GoBrolly® only charges $ .49 per Gigabyte for as much as you need, or 1/10 of what is normal. GoBrolly® will not slow your Internet down and will not throttle, or cut back, your connection.
But, why have Usage Based billing at all?
In a word – Fairness. We all use shared resources, and we don’t want a few heavy users keeping us, or contending with us, or being in the way, from using the shared resource. Why pay for something you are not receiving?
Here’s an example: We meet in a restaurant, and I have an appetizer, drink, steak, and a dessert while you have coffee and a salad. Should we split the bill evenly? Do you really want to pay an extra $40.00 for something you did not want or need? The notion that if you consume more Internet traffic, you should pay more, seems fair. If you consume less, you should pay less, and that seems fair.
Also, it seems fair that you should know the price of the meal before you order it. With GoBrolly® service, you can check your data usage at any time. We also send out email notifications at the 50% usage level, the 75% usage level, the 90% usage level, and at the 95% usage level. We do not stop or cut off your connection if you exceed the limits, you can just pay for the extra data, or upgrade to the right Free Data allowance for your usage. We also work very hard with our Customers to make sure they are getting the right plan for their needs, which almost always eliminates them exceeding their allowance. GoBrolly® has a plan available for as much data as you want or need.

We all share lots of resources, such as roads and highways. There are rules, regulations, speed limits, weight limits, and commonly accepted behaviors to make transportation available. Your vehicle can do 80 MPH, but it should not behave that way in a neighborhood block. You should be able to use your vehicle, but it should not keep anyone else from using theirs.
How does that apply to the Internet? There have to be rules, regulations, weight limits, commonly accepted behaviors – and hopefully not many speed limits. The Data Plans or Usage Based Billing are part of the effort to make sure the shared resources are available. If you don’t use it, don’t you want to pay less? Cell phone companies really don’t want you to use their network for data because their business mantra is targeted towards cellular.
