Why we think John DeVore is a Community Jewel

John DeVore enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944 and received his honorable discharge in 1946 after serving two years and reaching the rank of corporal. He passed away on August 2011 at North Point Nursing Home in Paola, Kansas.

He left his estate to foundations associated with three national veteran’s organizations: the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and the American Legion. The VFW and DAV agreed that it was preferable to administer the trust at the local level, through the trustee, First Option Bank.

DeVore was very specific in wanting to ensure that his estate will be used by veterans and members of the military who reside in Miami County. In keeping with this requirement, First Option Bank established an Advisory Group to assist in reviewing applications and making recommendations on how to best provide help within the county.

This Veteran’s Day, John DeVore is our community Jewel. John, you are not forgotten.

Thank You, Sir.
